CLUB NEWS & ACTIVITIES: We start the new school year of club meetings on September 19. We have several projects to work on this year, some of which will take more than one meeting to complete. This month, we will put together a one-page exhibit. Before the meeting, choose a topic you like and already have stamps, souvenir sheets, covers and/or postal stationary on that topic. I’m choosing Mother Teresa. I’ll have a souvenir sheet and several stamps. Bring all materials to the club meeting, where we will put the one-page exhibits together. (OR, you can put it together at home. Take a regular 8½” X 11” white sheet of paper and print [using a computer or nice handwriting] the title of your exhibit at the top with a brief description of your topic at the bottom of the page. Arrange your stamps and cover/souvenir sheet in a pleasing manner on the page.) If we do these at the meeting, we will hand print the exhibit page and mount your items.

These one-page exhibits will be shown at SEAPEX at the Seattle Center in early November. We need 16 pages, so we hope to have everyone get involved; parents are welcome to put together a one-page exhibit.

Exhibit Class – Bring ALL your materials and write-up as we need to start putting the exhibits together for SEAPEX in November. We have only two meetings to get them ready to show!

Scout Leaders – If you would like a formal Boy Scout Stamp Collecting Merit Badge workshop scheduled for WESTPEX and/or PIPEX, please let me know as soon as possible so I can get them scheduled. Then, it will be up to you to get scouts registered. This year’s WESTPEX merit badge workshop went very well with one troop finishing their merit badge and another gaining interest in starting theirs.

A SPECIAL WORD OF THANKS

Many of you know the sources of YSC’s philatelic donations. This year, we received several donations from people who are extra special to us, who supported our work over many years. These individuals passed away either late last year or earlier this year. Their families donated a portion of their stamp collections to our programs because these individuals specified such in a will or previously expressed their intentions to family members. We miss seeing these supporters at stamp shows with their smiles and words of encouragement. A huge, heart-felt thank you to the families of Arlo Bones, Ernie Vetter and Gus Lund for honoring their wishes in donating part of their collections. Thank you for your support!

VOLUNTEERS – The long-time leader of the Junior-Senior Stamp Club in Monroe, Washington, is retiring. This is an opportunity for a special volunteer. If you are interested in assuming the leadership role, please call Carol Edholm, 425-774-5929. The club meets monthly, during the day, as it supports the areas’ homeschool groups and seniors.
